Opening 2027
A house for two
in Wilderness
We're building Stilkrans, a private one-bedroom villa for two on a granite rockface
above Wilderness, on South Africa's Garden Route.
Views of the ocean on one side, mountains on the other.

The house
Designed around two people
At 95m², Stilkrans is small enough to bump into each other, but big enough to be by yourself. Once completed, it will contain a single, large bedroom, a kitchen for cooking good food, a mid-century fitted lounge and an expansive deck with a pool.
Among the most striking features designed by Penny Vorster of Liminal Architects are three colossal arches combining classical architecture with the quatrefoil patterns of medieval Gothic churches. At 3m high, 2m wide and 1m deep, they're almost like small rooms of their own, framing views of the ocean and mountains.
Why we chose arches
Ocean • Mountains • Stargazing
What you do here
We have some suggestions, but whatever you do, take it slow.
- Watch the weather move from the deck
- Find a sunny place to bask
- Grow hungry, make wholesome food
- Gaze at the stars as night falls
- Watch a ship move across the ocean
- Listen to a night owl hoot
- On the last day, sleep in and check out late

Above the village
The house will sit on Constantia Drive, between the Indian Ocean and the Outeniqua mountains on the Garden Route. It's just 25 minutes away from George Airport by car. Down at the village, find spices, ice cream, postcards or a friendly grocer.
Take a drive to the Wild Oats market. Pick some carrots, ginger, eggplant, or something green. Wind back slowly to a proper kitchen. The next morning, walk down to the Commonage for some good, local coffee. The walk back up is steep but you won't mind; the ocean opens up behind you.

A few things to know
- The space
- A self-catering stay for two adults, with one bedroom and one bathroom. A kitchen for cooking, a fireplace, a study desk, and a deck with a pool. Stilkrans is designed for couples.
- The stairs
- The design has at least 33 steps across the house and grounds, in short flights. It won't offer step-free access. Why 33 stairs?
- The last morning
- Don't check out until 3pm. Time for coffee, a swim, and lunch before you pack. We're happy to leave that space between one stay and the next.
- Rates & booking
- The current plan is R7,000 per night, with a four-night minimum stay and no pets. Opening is planned for 2027; bookings aren't open yet. We'll confirm dates, rates and arrival details before opening bookings.
